Elliott in hospital bed

Elliott's story

At 18 Elliott was embarking on the next stage of his life. University, friends, family and soccer were all keeping him busy, until he started to feel unwell.

He went to hospital for a scan and the result was not what he was expecting. He had a tumor in his chest measuring the size of a football. He and his family were in complete disbelief.

That was the start of a long and difficult journey for Elliott. He underwent five years of cancer treatment ending with a double lung transplant. His world looked very different to when he was 18.

During his time in treatment, Elliott thankfully found Canteen. It was here that Elliott made friends and connected with other young people going through a similar experience. He credits the programs he attended as key to understanding life after cancer treatment.

Since his lung transplant Elliott has resumed university, changing his degree to focus on working with young people impacted by cancer that need rehabilitation. The same services he used at Canteen.

Because of kind people like you, Elliott is living a life he didn’t think was possible. Thank you.

Cancer is hard

We need YOU to help support young people impacted by cancer today.

Every day, 63 young Aussies have their lives tragically turned upside down by a cancer diagnosis, whether it's their own diagnosis or a family member's. Young people experiencing cancer often feel terrified and alone. Together, we can change that. We can give young people the hope they need, to not just survive their cancer experience, but to thrive.

We need your help to provide life-changing services and support to all young Australians impacted by cancer.
