When Harry was 12, he found out his mum was pregnant with his baby brother. His families excitement quickly took a devastating turn when doctors found a tumour on his mum’s ovaries. It was cancer. Harry was so frightened at the thought of losing his mum.
Soon after this news, Harry tragically lost his baby brother Ryan who only survived two days after being born prematurely.
As Harry says, the only word I can use to describe that experience is excruciating”.
It’s something no one, let alone a 12-year-old, should have to face.
But thankfully, Canteen was there and gave Harry the life-changing support he needed to deal with the shock of losing his brother and his mum’s cancer. In Harry’s words, “It changed my life. Now I can socialise, I can raise my voice. Canteen gave me that”.
We need your help!
Harry’s story reminds us just how much support young people need to get through cancer. But our support isn’t possible without you. Please donate now. A gift to Canteen will help make sure we are with young Aussies, every step of the way.
